Bio:

Isawa Akihito was born an ishiken into an ancient Isawa family who counted their ancestors back to before the fall of the Kami. While he was not considered a great talent with the kami, he was competent and a pleasant youth given to introspection.

Akihito was encouraged to indulge he clever mind on his frequent visits into the forests around Kyuden Isawa. One day as he returned from taking his lunch he approached his father and brother training behind a family garden. Unbeknownst to Akihito, all color had mysteriously been drained from his skin, hair, and eyes. Rendering him an albino.

When question by his father and his fathers superiors at the Temple of Isawa he could give no answers. He had walked onto the forest to take his meal in solitude, as he did on most days. Spent a few peaceful moments basking in the natural purity of the forest, and returned.

A barrage of tests and rituals followed as the senior sages of the temple feared the boy to be in the grip of dark Maho. Those test failed to show any reason for the boy’s condition but did reveal a troubling fact. While his connection to the kami was as strong as ever, they could no longer understand his words and the Void no longer responded to his will.

After several fruitless weeks trying to continue his studies and regain his connection to the elements it was decided that Akihito should leave the Isawa shugenja school and go to train with the Shiba the following summer.

Upon his arrival Akihito shocked the sensei of the Shiba when he easily defeated one of their most promising students in a Kenjutsu match designed to determine his level of skill. Over the next few days the sensei were amazed to find that this young boy who days ago had never held a katana was able to pass nearly all of their tests normally used for student’s gempukku. Akihito was moved immediately into advanced studies with children twice his age.

Akihito had been crushed when he learned of his affliction. But here he wasn’t a mediocre shugenja to become a low level functionary. Here he was one of the best. Though his appearance and stories of his ordeal prevented admirers from fawning over him, he was respected. Students would come to him for insight into his effortless technique and soon he was instructing as one of the dojo’s most accomplished students.
